listen to little kid cover modest mouse

little kid bandin case you missed it, canadian lo-fi band little kid put out one of my favorite records of 2013.  kenny boothby writes music largely informed by his perspectives on religion, a la david bazan.  when i interviewed boothby earlier this year about river of blood, he mentioned that many of his musical influences surrounding that album came from late ’90s and early 2000s indie rock like death cab for cuite, built to spill, and modest mouse.

it makes sense, then, that little kid would release a stunning, minimal cover of modest mouse’s 1997 track “baby blue sedan.”  the song first appeared as a b-side on the band’s second album the lonesome crowded west, and boothby’s cover remains faithful to the original while adding his signature voice.  check it out on little kid’s tumblr here.
