my heart skipped a beat when i saw this earlier in the afternoon. orchid tapes has already had a great year and was poised to have a superb month of march, with records by arrange and home alone dropping via the brooklyn microlabel, but today’s announcement is definitely the cherry on top. to coincide with their fourth birthday, orchid tapes will be releasing boring ecstasy: the bedroom pop of orchid tapes on march 25th. that’s the album artwork above, and it captures the aesthetic and ethos of this label so perfectly. the television/vcr combo simply exudes nostalgia, and to see it enveloped in a collection of flowers and candles highlights the intimate, quaint nature of the music on orchid tapes’ roster.
the compilation album will be released digitally and on a limited run of vinyl (pre-orders are coming soonish), and features new songs from ricky eat acid, the sweater i gave you, elvis depressedly, foxes in fiction, and more. this new compilation also hits home in a fantastic way; wisconsin native yohuna is featured on boring ecstasy, and her song “badges” is the lead-off single from the record. it premiered over on the fader this afternoon, and you can check it out below.
