kcrw sessions – tv on the radio

tv on the radio helped usher in new york city’s musical renaissance of the early 2000’s, and now they’re experiencing one of their own.  the band released their fifth studio album, seeds, to warm reception last week; it’s their first since the death of bassist gerard smith in 2011 and largely finds tv on the radio reclaiming the commanding presence they held nearly ten years ago.  seeds is bolstered by lead single “happy idiot,” a relatively straight-ahead song that hinges on the band’s signature buzz-saw guitar work and the vocal interplay between tunde adebimpe and kyp malone, who is sporting a tremendous beard these days.  watch tv on the radio play “happy idiot” for a live audience in the kcrw studios below.
