brighton-based quintet phoria have been stockpiling a collection of densely-textured, gorgeous electronica for nearly three years now.  that diligence will pay off in the form of volition, their debut album, out june 3rd via x novo records.  trewin howard’s vocals are as lush as ever on “everything beta,” equally at ease with the rich synth-bass figure that swirls in the bowels of the mix as they are with the gentle piano off-beats that sit closer to the top.  the air feels chilly, with wisps of fog trailing off of each percussive hit, but phoria retains a comforting familiarity, one of a long-lost treasure only recently reclaimed.  take a listen to “everything beta” below.

after delivering sensual, syncopated r&b on last fall’s “melatonin,” you’d be forgiven for thinking that phoria would double down on an aesthetic they so clearly excel at.  instead, the quintet has delivered “saving us a riot,” a gorgeous, stripped down folk ballad with flecks of chamber pop sprinkled across its exterior.  the lilt of acoustic guitars lay the foundation for a soothing lullaby soon punctuated by affecting string counter-melodies, proving that phoria’s penchant for intimacy can effortlessly take on multiple forms.  take a listen to “saving us a riot” below.

brighton quintet phoria eased their way into the internet’s collective earbuds last year with display, an ep dotted with sensual whispers that eventually bloomed into massive, saturated electronica.  after a rather quiet 2015, phoria are set to drop their long-awaited debut full-length, out sometime early next year.  the album’s release has been prefaced by “melatonin,” a surging lead single that finds the band tightening up their aesthetic until comfortable before through traversing arpeggiated realms to reach an epiphany of euphoric choral pads.  take a listen below.
